This year, I am beyond honored to be asked to be a part of the Glaucoma Patient Summit Steering Committee for the Glaucoma Research Foundation for a one year term. This group helps set the agenda for the meeting and makes recommendations to create the best meeting possible for the patients in attendance. The Summit, set for 2024, will be held in Philadelphia, PA. Having been a part of the Patient Summit in 2022, I am excited about the possibilities of having it on the East Coast! More updates to follow, but I am grateful to be included in this important event.
If you or a loved one have glaucoma and you want up to date information about self care, treatments and the best way to live your life with this lifelong disease, I urge you to attend the Patient Summit in 2024. Learning new information, managing this disease, sharing stories with others that are on the same journey is imperative to living well with glaucoma. As I have always said, knowledge is power. Acceptance is key.
To borrow a quote from the Glaucoma Research Foundation "The cure is in sight." And I believe it is. The link to GRF is below, events are listed and there is so much information on glaucoma, research updates, treatments and more. Please share it if you will.

Old Dog New Tricks

Recently I spoke with the gallery director at the Red Raven Art Company about the art I've produced so far for the group show next year. Her suggestion? "Paint a landscape!" Normally my reply would be that I'm not a landscape painter. But I decided to take it on and I'm glad I did.
The result is "Song from Half Mountain" named after a song from one of my favorite Dan Fogleberg albums produced in 1974 titled "Souvenirs." Music influences my paintings, this one is no exception. If you haven't heard it, it's worth a listen. After all these years it stays with me. Here are some of the lyrics.
"Now the dream is rising
In a moment it will be past
This breath is my first
It will all too soon be my last.
And on a windy coast
I made several toasts
To you and me and the sea
And no one heard".
Picture yourself standing on that coastline, with a nod and a toast to the sea and you are present in that moment. And yes, I've done this more than once. Materials include acrylic paint, oil pastel, conté crayon and charcoal on cradle board. Shown to scale, it measures 30" x 36". A landscape. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
